The brand’s essence
The essence refers to the long fermentation of 86 botanicals described by the brand and to Secret Essence. The pale amber gel swatch is an editorial texture interpretation of that approach.
su:m37° began in 2007 with LG H&H’s idea of placing natural fermentation at the centre of skincare. Its name joins the Korean word for breath with a reference to 37°C fermentation. The launch described around fifty plant species and 23 products spanning facial care, cleansing, masks and body care.
Secret Programming Essence, introduced in 2009, became a defining family. In 2013, LG H&H announced cumulative sales above 100 billion won for the essence. Botanical materials, fermentation and the time allowed for that process connected the evolving products.
Art partnerships also shaped the brand. A 2018 Secret Essence Art Collaboration worked with the Cultural Foundation of the National Museum of Korea, reinterpreting a lotus motif from historic metalwork on the packaging. Fermentation and Korean visual culture thus became part of one narrative.
